1. Introduction

TFE Ethical Cybersecurity Planner (the "App") is a cybersecurity learning planner for students, made by Tech for Everyone and operated byNicholas D. West Tech LLC ("we", "us"). We respect your privacy and collect as little as the App needs to work. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

2. Who the App is for

The App is designed for middle- and high-school students and beginners, including children under 13, working with a teacher or parent. Because of that, the App is built so that no personal information is needed to use it. See section 7 for our children's privacy commitments.

3. What we collect

DataWhenWhy
Your planner notes (answers you type in each phase, which comprehension checks you attempted, and your place in the module)Always, as you workIt is the whole point of the App. Saved in your browser, and in our cloud database when cloud save is on.
An anonymous guest IDWhen cloud save is onLets your saved notes stay yours without an account. It contains no personal information.
Name (optional) and email address, plus a password we store only as a secure hashOnly if you choose to create an accountSo your notes can follow you between devices.
Technical data: IP address, browser or device type, time of requestAutomatically, in server logsSecurity and keeping the service running. Not used to profile you.
Aggregate page views: which page was opened, the referring site, browser type, device type and countryOn every visit to the public website (not in test builds)To count how many people use the App. Measured with Plausible, which uses no cookies and no persistent identifier, so it cannot recognize you or follow you between sites. We only ever see totals.
Crash reports: the error message, the page and browser type involved, and the App versionOnly when something in the App breaksSo we can fix bugs. Sent to Sentry with personal data turned off: a crash report never includes your notes, your name, your email, your account ID or what you clicked. Nothing is sent in demo mode or while the App is working normally.

We do not collect location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera data. The App uses no advertising networks, no cross-site tracking, and no social media plug-ins. The only third-party code that runs in the App besides our database client is the cookie-free page counter and the crash reporter described above.

4. Demo mode

In demo mode, chosen from the Account panel or by opening the App with ?demo in the address, nothing you type is sent to us. Notes stay in your browser's local storage only and disappear when you clear site data or press "Delete my notes". Demo mode is also used automatically when a build has no cloud connection configured.

5. The App never sends your notes to an AI

The App writes a report prompt from your notes. You copy it and paste it into an AI tool that you, your teacher or your parent chooses. We do not operate, choose or send anything to that tool, and its privacy policy applies to what you paste there. Students should ask a teacher or parent before using any AI service.

6. Where data is stored and who processes it

These providers process data only on our behalf. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it with advertisers.

7. Children's privacy (COPPA)

We follow the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. The App is designed so that a child can use every feature as aguest or in demo mode, without giving a name, email or any other personal information. A guest's notes are tied to an anonymous ID only.

Creating an account requires an email address. For children under 13, the account should be created by, or with the consent of, a parent, guardian or school. When a school uses the App in class, the school consents on the students' behalf, as COPPA allows for educational use. We use children's information only to provide the App, never for marketing, and we do not show third-party advertising. Parents and schools may review or delete a child's data at any time (section 8).

8. Your choices and rights

If you are in a region with data-protection rights (such as the EU, UK or California), you may exercise them by emailing us. We do not discriminate against you for doing so.

9. Security

Connections are encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are stored as hashes. Saved notes can be read only by the session or account that created them. No method is perfect, so please tell us about any problem you find. In the spirit of the module itself, we welcome responsible disclosure.

10. Changes

We will post any changes here and update the date at the top. Significant changes affecting children's data will be announced in the App.
